Since FSARG was establish in 2005, the group has been very active in developing new skills and knowledge. As such, many members have taken part in training sessions that cover a multitude of disciplines. Training is organised as and when that topic is needed, not provided as a set course.

Over the years the group have received training on;

  • Medieval Pottery - from the excellent John Cotter, as well as our own in-house training

  • Post medieval pottery - Andrew Linklater

  • Prehistoric Pottery - Nigel Macpherson-Grant

  • Environmental Training - Lisa Gray

  • Brick and tile - Louise Harrison

  • Flints - Geoff Hallewell of the Dover Group

  • Illustrating - Barbara Mcnee

  • Map Regression - Ges Moody and Emma Boast from the Thanet Archaeological Trust

  • Stratigraphic Training - Simon Holmes

  • Project Management in Archaeology - Andrew Linklater

  • Levels Surveying - in house

  • Metal Detecting - in house

  • Geo-resistivity - in house

In addition to this, each new member has full induction training - this focuses on health and safety. FSARG members have also attended weekend courses at the KAFS on Flint implements; Roman pottery and Medieval pottery.
