FSARG Relaxing!

A lunchtime 'meeting' at The Ship, Ospringe.	I don't know what it is, but archaeology and the local pub seem to go hand in hand. Fortunately in Faversham we have quite a few to choose from (although not as many as in the past). We tend to use the closest pub to where we're excavating for lunch or at the end of the day to discuss our progression and relax. During Hunt The Saxons project we used The Bull Inn, Tanners Street - owned by the local brewer Shepherd Neame. The Bull was built in 1409 and was visited by Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. The publican kindly allowed us to establish a base in the pub garden where we worked for the 2 weeks summer season. The Bull Inn, Tanners Street, Faversham - Our base camp for Hunt The Saxons
Taking a well-earned break while excavating a water feature in Pettits Row		For our Understanding Ospringe project, we used the facilities of another popular pub in Faversham - The Ship Inn. The Ship dates from the 1600s and stands on part of the site previously occupied by The Hospital of St Mary. The publican - John Baker (Jonny) allowed us to excavate in the pub garden (see K62 report).
