Excavations K83, 84A, 84B

As part of an investigation into prehistoric settlement on the steep eastern bank of the Westbrook Stream at Ospringe three small keyhole pits were excavated to examine the top middle and lower parts of the slope. Evidence for prehistoric activity from most periods was found with finished flint tools abundant waste flakes and heat stressed flint in all contexts.  The most impressive find was an Acheulian Hand axe (Wymer Type 5) found 40cm down underneath a Bronze Age assemblage.
